NEW DELHI: From today, Vande Bharat trains will see a ‘14-minute miracle’. The trains which boast of several premium services will add one more — they will be cleaned and made ready for the next trip in just 14 minutes after passengers deboard at destination stations.
The super fast cleanliness drive will be launched at 29 stations on Sunday with an aim to drastically cut down these premium trains’ turn-around time, which is currently in the range of 45 minutes to two hours.
Indian Railways is implementing the drive on the lines of globally-renowned ‘7-minute miracle’ system of cleaning bullet trains in Japan. On an average, bullet trains stop at Tokyo station for 12 minutes and passengers take five minutes to deboard and board. So, the cleaning crew gets only seven minutes to finish their job.
Railways plans to launch the ‘14-minute miracle’ at 3 stations in Delhi on Sunday, with minister Ashwini Vaishnaw set to be present at Delhi Cantonment station.
