From IPS Officer to Political Leader
Lalduhoma’s journey into politics is extraordinary.Initially serving as an officer in the Indian Police Service (IPS) in Goa, he later became in-charge of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s security in the national capital. Following his service, Lalduhoma founded the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), a political party that has now become a key player in Mizoram’s political landscape.
In 1984, Lalduhoma marked his entry into the Lok Sabha. However, his political trajectory faced a significant challenge when he became the first Member of Parliament to be disqualified under the anti-defection law.
In the year 2020, Lalduhoma faced disqualification as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for violating the anti-defection law. However, he made a triumphant comeback by winning the by-election for the Serchhip seat in 2021.
In the last assembly elections, Lalduhoma emerged as the chief ministerial candidate for the ZPM-led coalition. His resilience and dedication to Mizoram have not gone unnoticed, solidifying his position as a prominent figure in the state’s political discourse.
