Will attend next INDIA bloc meet, seek swift call on plans: Nitish Kumar – Times of India

PATNA: While asserting that he would attend the next meeting of the INDIA bloc in Delhi in the third week of December, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar said on Wednesday he would tell all the opposition allies “to hold quick meetings and act swiftly to finalise strategies (against the BJP-led NDA) or else it would be late (for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls)”.
“Is it possible that opposition bloc meeting is held and I am not there? … I want all the (opposition) parties to sit together and work fast… I will ask them not to make more delay. I have been trying for the last one year to unite all of them,” Nitish said while responding to media queries here.
The JD(U) leader also reiterated that he had no desire for any post in the INDIA bloc and wanted only to unite the opposition parties in the interests of the country. “I want that the people who are trying to distort the history of the country would not be able to do so. For this purpose I want all the parties in the opposition alliance to proceed forward unitedly,” he said.
To a question, the CM agreed that he would share a dais with Union home minister Amit Shah at the East Zonal Council meeting scheduled to be held in Patna on December 10. This time, Bihar is hosting the meeting. The CMs of all member states attend the zonal council meeting which, traditionally, is chaired by the Union home minister.
“Woh toh parampara hai, usme kya dikkat hai? (It is a tradition. There is no problem in attending this meeting (with Shah),” he said.
To a query on the recent assembly poll results, Nitish tried to downplay BJP’s victory in the three states in the Hindi heartland, saying that “there is no need to discuss much the victory of the saffron party. Congress has performed well in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. These things (victory and defeat) happen in electoral politics.
