NEW DELHI: The government on Monday withdrew the three criminal justice bills from Parliament and said they would be redrafted and introduced afresh after incorporating recommendations made by the parliamentary committee in its reports on November 10.
The Centre made the announcement in a statement on the Parliament portal for MPs, stating that the bills, introduced in Lok Sabha by home minister Amit Shah on August 11, will be withdrawn.
Shah is likely to introduce this week the redrafted version of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita Bill 2023, the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Samhita Bill, 2023, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023, the three legislations that seek to rewrite the Indian Penal Code, the Criminal Procedure Code and the Indian Evidence Act.

Sources said the decision to introduce a fresh draft of the proposed legislations was taken in order to avoid too many amendments since several recommendations made by the committee have been accepted by the government.
In its reports, the House panel had recommended a slew of changes, including suggestions to “safeguard the authenticity and integrity of electronic and digital records acquired during the course of investigation”.
The Brij Lal-led committee also pointed to incongruities in subject matters contained in the proposed legislations and sought corrections.
