Christmas 2023 bank holidays: This year, Christmas coincides with Monday, leading to the closure of banks nationwide. As per the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) holiday calendar, bank branches in various regions of the country will remain closed for up to five days during Christmas, which includes weekends.
December 25, which is Christmas, is on a Monday.Preceding this, December 23 marks the fourth Saturday, and December 24 is a Sunday; hence, resulting in a continuous three-day holiday in some states. Additionally, Christmas festivities extend in Kohima till December 26 and December 27, resulting in a five-day closure for banks.

  • December 25 (Monday)– (Christmas)- Banks are closed in all states
  • December 26 (Tuesday)– Christmas Celebration- Banks are closed in Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya
  • December 27 ( Wednesday)– Christmas- Banks are closed in Arunachal Pradesh

As per the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881, bank holidays are categorised into four segments: Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday, Holidays Under Negotiable Instruments Act, and Banks’ Closing of Accounts Holiday.
On State Inauguration Day/Indigenous Faith Day, Feast of St. Francis Xavier, Pa-Togan Nengminja Sangma, Losoong/Namsoong, Death Anniversary of U SoSo Tham, Goa Liberation Day, Christmas, and U Kiang Nangbah, banks will remain closed.

Online banking services will remain accessible
Throughout this period, online banking services will be accessible. Most tasks can be accomplished through mobile/internet banking. However, for any paperwork, it is advisable to plan accordingly by considering the holiday schedule.
