Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved MHA’s proposal for continuation of the umbrella scheme for “safety of women” at a cost of Rs 1,180 crore for 2021-22 to 2025-26. Of the total project outlay, Rs 885 crore will be provided by MHA from its budget and Rs 294 crore will be funded from Nirbhaya Fund.
The umbrella scheme for “safety of women” approved by the Cabinet includes the 112 emergency response support system (ERSS) 2.0; upgradation of central forensic sciences laboratories, including setting up of the national forensic data centre; strengthening of DNA analysis, cyber forensic capacities in state forensic science laboratories (FSLs); cyber crime prevention against women and children; capacity building and training of investigators and prosecutors in handling sexual assault cases against women and children; and women help desk and anti-human trafficking units.
