Narayana Murthy’s big gift for grandson! Rohan Murty’s son Ekagrah, who is just four months old, has been given a gift worth crores by his grandfather. Billionaire NR Narayana Murthy has gifted his grandson 15 lakh Infosys shares valued at over Rs 240 crore.
According to regulatory filings, 77-year-old Narayana Murthy has transferred 15 lakh shares, equivalent to a 0.04% stake in Infosys, to his grandson in a recent off-market transaction. As a result of this gift, Murthy’s ownership in the IT company decreased to 0.36%.
Based on the current trading price of Rs 1,620 per share on the Bombay Stock Exchange, Ekagrah’s holdings amount to a staggering Rs 243 crore, states an ET report.
Ekagrah, born to Rohan Murty and Aparna Krishnan on November 10 in Bengaluru, is the third grandchild of Sudha Murty and Narayana Murthy. Sudha Murty has recently been sworn in as a Rajya Sabha MP.
Rohan Murty, with a Ph.D. in computer science from Harvard University, heads the Boston-based software firm Soroco, while his wife Aparna leads Murty Media.
Notably, Ekagrah joins Krishna and Anoushka, the daughters of Akshata Murty and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, as the grandchildren of the Murthy couple.
In terms of Infosys ownership, Akshata holds a 1.05% stake, Sudha owns 0.93%, and Rohan possesses 1.64%, as of the end of the December quarter.
Murthy, along with six other co-founders, established Infosys in 1981. With the exception of Ashok Arora, who departed the company in 1989, all the co-founders have since become billionaires.
