NEW DELHI: Chirag Paswan, son of late Ram Vilas Paswan, may have succeeded in thwarting the political challenge from his estranged uncle Pashupati Paras, but the young Bihar leader now faces rebellion from his party leaders over ticket distribution for Lok Sabha elections.
According to news agency ANI, 22 leaders of Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas), including one former MP and one former MLA, on Wednesday quit the party accusing Chirag Paswan of “selling” Lok Sabha tickets to people “one could not imagine”.
Former MP Renu Kushwaha, who resigned from the party, said, “Ticket should be given to party workers instead of people from outside. Our devotion was questioned. We are not here to serve as a labour.”
Former MLA and party’s national general secretary Satish Kumar said: “We could see a lot of possibility in him (Chirag Paswan). We thought that he would change the future of Bihar. But all party workers are shocked by the distribution of tickets. Tickets have been given to people one could not even imagine.”
Ravindra Singh, who was the organization secretary of the party, said “Chirag Paswan has played an emotional game with people of Bihar. When he got five seats due to our hard work, he sold all those tickets. People of Bihar will give him an answer.”
Chirag Paswan has got 5 seats in the state as per agreement between the BJP-led NDA partners.
Soon after announcement of all 5 candidates, Chirag Paswan said: “Our party declared all five candidates today, after days of deliberations. Being a youth myself, I want the maximum youths to come forward in politics. We gave priority to educated young people, who have a good sense of the future and responsibility towards their people and state. two out of five seats have been given to women candidates. We have full faith that we will win these five seats and NDA will win all 40 seats in Bihar,” he said.
Chirag, who was dumped by the BJP after the last assembly elections in the state, got his due this time around as all the 5 seats of LJP quota went to his party and the claims of his estranged uncle was ignored.
The LJP faction headed by Pashupati Paras had all the sitting MPs, but none of them were renominated. Paras, who quit as cabinet minister in protest, had initially threatened to rebel against the NDA. However, the BJP seems to have succeded in pacifying Paras as he announced complete support to all NDA candidates and later also met BJP chief J P Nadda.
Chirag Paswan would hope that his uncle keeps his commitment and works for the victory of LJP candidates.
