“Deeply saddened by the unfortunate demise of Mr. Uma Satya Sai Gadde, an Indian student in Cleveland, Ohio”, Indian in New York said in a post on X.
“Police investigation is underway”, it added.
Assuring to remain in touch with the family of the deceased, the consulate said, “All possible assistance is being extended including to transport Mr. Uma Gadde’s mortal remains to India at the earliest.”
This comes after Amarnath Ghosh, a Kuchipudi and Bharatnatyam dance exponent from Suri in Bengal’s Birbhum district who was pursuing his PhD at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, was reportedly shot dead last month.
On February 2, Vivek Taneja, a 41-year-old Indian-origin IT professional, was critically injured during an assault outside a Washington restaurant, becoming the sixth Indian or Indian-American to die in the United States in recent months.
Following a series of attacks on Indians and people of Indian origin, officials from the Indian Embassy in Washington and its consulates in various locations held a virtual interaction with Indian students from across the United States, discussing various aspects of student well-being and ways to stay connected with the larger diaspora.
Since the beginning of 2024, at least a half dozen Indian and Indian-origin students have died in the United States.
