Exclusive – Eijaz Khan on how Jawan’s success changed things for him: The experience of working on the film with SRK sir, Atlee and Vijay sir was amazing, but I did not get the kind of work that I was expecting – Times of India

Eijaz Khan, known for his roles in major television shows, initially ventured into acting through small roles in films. He appeared in “Thakshak” and also featured in “Maine Dil Tujhko Diya” alongside Sanjay Dutt and Sohail Khan. Additionally, he was part of the star-studded cast of “Kuch Naa Kaho,” which starred Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Tanu Weds Manu. The actor’s last Bollywood release Jawan shattered many box-office records. However, it did not bring him the kind of work he was expecting. Eijaz is grateful he got a chance to be a part of something that was like a history in the making.
In an exclusive interview with ETimes, Eijaz Khan talked about the response he got for Jawan and how it changed things for him in the industry, “I try to remain as grounded as possible about it. I don’t take things very seriously. I was a small part of something as big as history in the making. I got a lot of appreciation for the role and from everyone and everywhere. Everyone praised my performance and mentioned how I made an impact even in a small role. The experience of working on the film with Shah Rukh Khan sir, director Atlee and Vijay sir was amazing. But when it comes to work I did not get the kind of work that I was expecting. Kahan hai, I don’t know what people think. I did get a call I was expecting, Mujhe laga tha bhai ab toh bhai hogaya ye calls aayenge Woh aayenge, kuch calls aaye joh acche roles ke aaye hain, challenging role ke liye aaye hain. Then I got something like this. Once you are associated with something which is long running like this, I don’t take on other projects. Main generally do teen cheezein Ek saath nahi karta…”
He further added that he is hopeful that the good work will get it’s due credit, “I want to focus on one thing and I want to focus as much as possible. I am not picking up anything else. One thing I know for sure, my father used to teach me that any kind of knowledge doesn’t go to waste. In the same way any kind of good work will get me its due credit.”
Further talking about the film, EIjaz Khan made a revelation that he was cast overnight for the film and he was somebody’s replacement, “When I was shooting for my part in Jawan I wasn’t expecting at all that it would become this big. Kyunki frankly I didn’t even know the entire story of the film when I was shooting. I was called just a night before the shooting and was given the background and Atlee sir called me. It was a Tamil set and everybody spoke in Tamil, there was one interpreter who would also speak very calculatively. There were a few things which were added or removed after I joined the film. They were trying to temper that the revenge will come because of this situation Aur ye cheez Aise hoga. I hope because of my work they added a few things I didn’t realise at that time. After the film got released I did not realise that something like this had happened. Ab trickle down hota ab samajh mein aata hai and I am very grateful. I was cast overnight in the film, I was a replacement for someone I think and I’ve worked with Shah Rukh sir in the past as a dancer and I reminded him about it.”
Recalling an incident from the sets of “Jawan,” Eijaz Khan shared how Shah Rukh Khan’s encouragement helped him overcome his fear when he had to do a scene involving hitting him, “He responded very graciously and told me “Haan beta theek hai barabar se aake maarna”. He was very encouraging, there was a scene where I had to hit him with a pistol but with full force and I was so scared. Ek toh pistol but itne heavy and on top of that I was sweating. I practised my part and was scared agar galti se lag jaaye toh but he was very kind and that is the hallmark of a superstar. In short it was a dream come true and a brilliant experience. I don’t think main kuch bhi karunga will ever match up and I am just happy I was part of it,” he concluded.
