NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lambasted the Congress, asserting that the progress achieved in the last ten years surpassed what had been accomplished in the 60 years following independence.
Speaking at a public rally in Nawada, Bihar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised that the Central government is undertaking bold initiatives for the nation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi went on with his attack on the INDIA opposition bloc, stating that they haven’t been able to pick a leader. Addressing the rally in Nawada, he said, “The INDIA bloc can’t decide on a leader.”
“I am dedicated to eliminating poverty from our nation. The conditions prevailing before 2014 remain vivid in my memory. A large portion of our fellow citizens were constrained to dwell in makeshift dwellings or were without shelter entirely. Access to gas connections was a luxury for the impoverished. Middlemen exploited the ration meant for the needy… I have experienced poverty firsthand. As a humble servant of the poor, this son of a humble background is committed to their service,”the Prime Minister said. He further emphasised, “The accomplishments we’ve attained in the last decade surpass what could not be achieved in the six decades post-Independence.”
PM Modi, in his second election rally in the state following the announcement of the poll schedule, said that his government’s ambition to empower three crore ‘lakhpati didis’ in the rural areas of the state during its third term.
Further, the Prime Minister said that over the past decade, the people of Bihar have seen numerous significant decisions made in the best interest of the nation.
“…I said this from the ramparts of Red Fort that this is the right time. India’s time has come. We should not lose this opportunity and hence this election of 2024 has become very important…In the last 10 years, the people of Bihar have seen many big decisions taken in the interest of the country. Today in India and in Bihar, modern infrastructure has been built. Today, modern expressways are being built in Bihar, railway stations are being modernized, trains like Vande Bharat are increasing,” the PM said.
Hailing the region of Nawada, Prime Minister remarked that this illustrious land of Magadha encompasses the valour of Chandragupta Maurya, the intellectual prowess of Acharya Chanakya and possesses the capability to guide the nation forward.
“This area is also the birthplace of Bihar Kesari Krishna Babu, the first CM of Bihar. Nawada is also the workplace of Loknayak Shri Jaiprakash Narayan. I respectfully bow to all these great personalities…” the PM added.
Standing alongside him, Bihar chief minister and JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar echoed the sentiment that development is swiftly unfolding in the state.
“Development is happening at a fast pace in Bihar. What was the condition of Bihar before 2005? You could not step out of your house after the evening. Today you can move around freely…Husband and wife (Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi) ruled for 15 years but no work was done,” Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said.
The BJP has fielded Vivek Thakur, the party’s Rajya Sabha MP and the son of senior BJP leader and former Union minister C P Thakur, as its candidate for the Nawada Lok Sabha constituency. On April 4, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Lok Sabha election campaign of the NDA in Bihar with a rally in the Jamui constituency. The first phase of polling is scheduled for April 19 in Nawada, Gaya, Aurangabad, and Jamui Lok Sabha constituencies.
As per NDA’s seat-sharing arrangement in Bihar for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the BJP is contesting 17 seats, while its ally JD(U) is contesting 16 seats. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas Paswan) will compete for five Lok Sabha seats in the state. The Hindustani Awam Morcha (led by Jitan Ram Manjhi) and the Rashtriya Lok Samta Party will each contest one seat.
