The nine forms of Goddess or Maa Durga celebrated during these nine auspicious days are– Maa Shailputri, Maa Brahmacharini, Maa Chandraghanta, Maa Kushmanda, Maa Skandamata, Maa Katyayani, Maa Kalaratri, Maa Mahagauri and Maa Siddhidatri.These nine avatars of Maa Durga or Adi Shakti are called Navadurga.
Chaitra Navratri also marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year, and it also signifies the onset of summers. During these nine auspicious days, devotees pray to Maa Durga to seek her protect and blessings, fast, chant mantras and meditate. They get up early in the mornings, take a bath and wear clean clothes, pray to Goddess Durga and only have Satvik food like fruits and certain vegetables. Devotees also refrain from having alcohol, negative thoughts and speech, and Tamsik foods as per Ayurveda.
