EC issues Congress leader Surjewala show-cause notice for his ‘undignified’ comments against Hema Malini | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Election Comission of India on Tuesday issued Congress leader Randeep Surjewala show-cause notice for his ‘undignified’ comments against Hema Malini.
The EC also asked the Congress leader to explain steps taken to ensure compliance with its advisories on upholding women’s dignity during campaigning.
The congress party leader is expected to respond by April 11, 2024, on actions taken by the party to ensure strict compliance of the Commission’s advisories upholding honour and dignity of women during public discourse by all party leaders.
The EC notice follows Haryana State Commissions’ notice to Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala for allegedly making “indecent” remarks against actor and BJP leader Hema Malini last week.
The issue came to the fore after BJP IT department head Amit Malviya shared an undated video on X in which the Congress general secretary is purportedly making some objectionable remarks about the actor-politician and two-time Mathura MP while attacking the ruling party.
The BJP had accused Surjewala, who is also a former Haryana minister, of making “vile, sexist” remarks against Hema Malini, alleging it shows that the main opposition party is misogynistic and abhors women.
