Android 15’s first beta is out, but for these phones only – Times of India

The first public beta of the next version of Google’s mobile operating system — Android 15 — is here. This release follows two developer previews, giving users an early look at what Google has in store for its next mobile operating system. We can expect to hear more details at Google’s upcoming developer conference, Google I/O, in May. Android 15 Beta 1 is the “initial beta-quality release” and the first this cycle to be available as over-the-air update for those enrolled in the Android Beta Program.

As for availability, Android 15 Beta 1 is rolling out to Pixel devices. Android 15 beta will run on Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, and Pixel 8 Pro phones.
The initial update focuses on some practical improvements. Apps will now automatically scale to fill the entire screen, and translucent system bars will become a thing of the past for apps. Additionally, Android 15 introduces built-in support for app archiving and unarchiving, allowing third-party app stores to take advantage of this feature. Braille display users will also benefit from enhanced support in this update.
While these are the headlining changes, there’s more going on behind the scenes. Much of the development seems geared towards smoother integration between hardware and software. Hints of even bigger changes have also surfaced, likely to be unveiled at Google I/O. Satellite messaging and a more Samsung DeX-like Desktop mode are likely features in the pipeline.
