‘One area we would like to improve…’: CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad after losing to LSG | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: In an IPL showdown against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), openers KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock showcased a batting masterclass, propelling Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to a commanding eight-wicket victory.
Despite a solid unbeaten 57 from Ravindra Jadeja and late fireworks from Moeen Ali (30 off 20) and MS Dhoni (28 off 9), CSK posted a competitive total of 176 for six after being asked to bat first. In response, Rahul’s elegant 82 and de Kock’s composed 54 formed a formidable partnership of 134 runs, setting a new record as the highest partnership for any wicket at the Ekana Stadium.
LSG chased down the target with ease, reaching 180 for 2 in just 19 overs. This victory not only helped LSG recover from consecutive losses but also solidified their position in the IPL standings.
On the other hand, CSK, who entered the match with two consecutive wins, suffered their third defeat in the tournament, highlighting the unpredictable nature of IPL competition.
CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, however, felt that his side did well with the bat but couldn’t take advantage of the start after the powerplay overs.
“We finished well with the bat; we couldn’t have asked more with the situation we were in. After the powerplay, we couldn’t capitalise on the start we got, and we kept losing wickets at regular intervals. I would say we were 10-15 runs short,” Ruturaj said after the match.
“Slightly difficult with such a total, with the impact sub rule, you need 10-15 or even 20 runs extra. Pitches like these seem sluggish to start off with, but with dew coming on, it gets better; 190 would have been a good score.
One area we would like to improve is taking wickets in the powerplay. That will put pressure on the opposition. We need to work on it. Good to play them again (next game at Chepauk). We will come up with good homework done now that we have three home games,” Ruturaj added.
