‘Indira Gandhi donated her jewellery in 1962 war…’ : Mallikarjun Kharge on PM Modi’s ‘mangalsutra jibe’ | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘mangalsutra‘ remarks, questioning ‘what sacrifice has any BJP-RSS leader made for the country.’
Kharge highlighted the contributions of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who donated her jewellery during the 1962 India-China war, and the sacrifices made by Pandit Motilal Nehru and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who donated their home to the freedom movement.
“What sacrifice has any leader of the BJP-RSS ever made for the nation? They did not even participate in the National Movement. For elections, Modi ji is lying to the people that their Mangalsutra shall not be safe. Congress governed this country for 55 years. Has that even happened once? Indira Gandhi donated her jewellery in the 1962 War. Pandit Motilal Nehru and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru donated their home to the freedom movement as Anand Bhawan in Allahabad. Our leaders have lived and sacrificed their life and blood for the nation,” the congress chief said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

PM Modi, while addressing a gathering in Banswara, had alleged that Congress party intends to provide hard-earned money of people and gold of our women to ‘those having more children’ and questioned whether or not this is acceptable to the public.
“Congress manifesto says that it will calculate the gold owned by our mothers and sisters, collect information and then distribute to those … who former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had said that had the first right on the country’s wealth,” said the Prime Minister.
In another rally, PM Modi asserted that his speech had caused panic within the entire Congress and INDIA bloc. He reiterated his claim that Congress is plotting to seize people’s property and distribute it to their special interests, exposing their vote bank and appeasement politics. The Prime Minister questioned why Congress is so afraid of the truth.
