PUNE: Real estate developer Dineshchandra alias Balasaheb Argade (65), along with three hired assailants and two middlemen, were arrested over the last two days on charges of conspiracy and two attempts on the life of his son Dhiraj (38).
“Argade has admitted to have given a Rs 75 lakh ‘supari’ (contract) and plotted the two failed attempts as he was upset with his son’s wayward behaviour, affecting their business, and issues arising from domestic and property disputes,” Pune commissioner of police Amitesh Kumar told reporters on Wednesday.
Police identified the hired assailants as Pravin Tukaram Kudale (31) and Yogesh Damodar Jadhav (39) from Sutardara, and Chetan Arun Pokale (27) from Warje. Kudale, a criminal on police records, has nine previous offences to his name. The two others arrested are Prashant Vilas Ghadge (38) and Ashok Laxman Thombare, both real estate agents.
Pistol used in bid to kill developer’s son seized
The arrested real estate agents, Prashant Ghadge and Ashok Thombare, had hired the assailants on behalf of Argade, the “mastermind“.
Ghadge is from Warje and Thombre is from Erandwane. A country-made pistol, a live cartridge, a bogus vehicle registration number plate, uniforms and backpack of a food delivery service provider used in the crime were recovered from the arrested men.
Crime branch inspector Shabbir Sayyed and his team studied over 200 CCTV footage from JM Road up to Sutardara in Kothrud, where the movement of the two assailants in the JM Road incident was tracked. “This led the team to Kudale, who confessed during his questioning that he and Jadhav were involved in the failed firing incident. He led the police to the recovery of the firearm,” the CP said.
Kumar said, “Kudale also admitted to his involvement, along with Pokale, in the earlier attempt on the life of Dhiraj on March 15 and Pokale was arrested. Kudale and Jadhav’s interrogation revealed real estate agents Ghadge and Thombre’s role in hiring them. They revealed that the victim’s father was the mastermind, who had hired them for Rs75 lakh and even gave Rs20 lakh advance payment to execute the task.”
A police officer said, “They had found a GPS device in Dhiraj’s car after the April 16 incident . His father got it installed to track his exact location.”
