Decathlon India appoints Sankar Chatterjee as CEO – ET Retail


New Delhi: Sports retailer Decathlon has appointed Sankar Chatterjee as its new India Chief Executive Officer.

According to Chatterjee’s LinkedIn profile, he resumed the role of the company CEO in February 2024. Chatterjee who has been associated with the brand for over 13 years, earlier held the position of Country Digital Leader for Decathlon Sports India.

“With over 20 years of experience in various domains of the sports industry, I am currently the CEO of Decathlon Sports India, one of the world’s largest French sporting goods manufacturers and retailers. I lead a team of over 5,000 passionate and talented teammates who share a common vision: to make sports affordable and enjoyable for every Indian,” his LinkedIn reads.

Chatterjee spearheaded the digital transformation of Decathlon India, building an integrated ecosystem of e-commerce, digital marketing, technology, data, customer experience, and logistics. He has also played a role in launching the Decathlon Connect store in India.

Decathlon confirmed the development to ETRetail in an email query. However, did not comment on any other changes in the India senior management.

Earlier this year Decathlon’s global CEO Barbara Martin Coppola said that India is currently among the top ten global markets, growing ‘twice the rate’ of others.
