Wednesday was Prabhat’s first day of selling ice cream at C-Hexagon at India Gate.
“A person in his 20s came to his ice-cream cart and stabbed him several times,” said the DCP, citing the narratives of those who saw the attack. “The accused arrived in an autorickshaw and began searching for the ice-cream seller. He located Prabhat and talked with him. It soon turned into a scuffle, and he stabbed Prabhat in the neck, heart and stomach and then fled the spot.”
The cops identified the assailant as Ajay, a resident of Gonda in UP. He was working as a casual worker and driver with a tent house in Noida. The investigators collected blood samples and the victim’s slippers from the site, but Prabhat’s phone could not be located.
Prabhat’s father said, “A few days, ago my son told me about his relationship with the girl and his desire to marry her. We also learnt that the girl’s parents were ready to marry her off. We requested a meeting, but the girl wasn’t not ready and we also didn’t know that she was underage.”
After forming three teams to pursue the case, and armed with the knowledge about the three-way romance, the cops were later able to apprehend Ajay in Noida.
When questioned, Ajay disclosed that he learnt about the girl’s affair around 10 days ago and had talked to Prabhat about it. “During investigation, we got some leads that the girl had provoked Ajay by claiming that the victim harassed her and even blackmailed her,” said a police officer, who revealed that Section 120B of the Indian Penal Code related to criminal conspiracy would be invoked in the case. The girl was also apprehended by the cops and will be questioned.
