NEW DELHI: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured a four-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday.
With this win, LSG jumped to third place in the standings with 12 points in 10 games, which consisted of six wins and four losses.
Batting first, MI posted a total of 144 for 7, with Nehal Wadhera top-scoring with 46 runs. Tim David and Ishan Kishan contributed with unbeaten innings of 35 and 32 runs, respectively.
In reply, LSG successfully chased down the target in 19.2 overs. The standout performer for LSG was Marcus Stoinis, who played a crucial knock of 62 runs off 45 balls.
During the MI’s innings, Mohsin Khan claimed two wickets, while Marcus Stoinis, Mayank Yadav, who walked off the field due to an injury, Naveen-ul-Haq, and Ravi Bishnoi each picked up one wicket for LSG.
Mayank’s participation was cut short due to an injury, despite his impressive performance of 1 for 31 in 3.1 overs.
LSG head coach Justin Langer was quite thrilled with the win against MI and felt that the team had all the bases covered.
“We were bitterly disappointed with our last game. So to fight against MI and win against them, that brings a smile. Thrilled with that (win). (On the bowling) It was outstanding. I thought we had all bases covered. The first time we have taken early wickets (apart from Bangalore) and it set us up nicely,” Langer said after the match
Langer also gave an update on young pace sensation Mayank’s injury, who returned to the LSG side after missing five matches due to soreness in the lower abdominal area, stating that it appeared that the problem is on the same spot.
“(On Mayank Yadav’s injury) Looks like he is sore in the same spot. His rehab has been perfect. He has bowled pain-free the last week or so and has looked in great condition. We will have a scan and find out tomorrow.
(On Stoinis) He has been a real match-winner. He took a good catch earlier as well. He is showing a good presence at the top of the order, which we demanded after the first few games. Match-winners (like him) are key to progressing in such tournaments. I have been blown away by the IPL and how tight it is, almost like a World Cup. Loved how we fought back tonight and that is a sign of a good team,” Langer concluded.
