AYODHYA: President Droupadi Murmu offered prayers at the Ram temple in Ayodhya on Wednesday evening. She performed the aarti and bowed before the idol of Ram Lalla amid the chanting of mantras.
Temple Trust members presented a miniature replica of Ram temple and a framed photo of the Ram Lalla idol to Murmu. This was Murmu’s first visit to the newly built temple.
“I am unable to describe my feelings in words after witnessing Ram Lalla in his majestic form at the Ram temple.I recall the deeply touching episodes such as the dialogue between Lord Ram and Kewat, Shabri’s jujube episode among others. Ram temple is an embodiment of the cultural values of our society which encourages all individuals to work for the larger interest of the society. In this era and time we are lucky to be a part of the nation’s holistic development and progress,” read the post on the official handle of the President of India on ‘X’ after the visit.
President arrived at Maharishi Valmiki International Airport in Ayodhya around 4pm and was received by UP Governor Anandiben Patel and cabinet minister Surya Pratap Shahi.
Her first stop was the Hanuman Garhi temple where she offered prayers and performed aarti. Senior priests of the temple led by Hemant Das presented her prasad and a souvenir.
Next Murmu visited the banks of the Saryu river and attended the grand evening aarti. The president offered a garland of flowers to the Sarayu river as part of the aarti. After the aarti the President visited the Ram temple.
Before leaving for Delhi, Murmu also paid obeisance at Kuber Teela and to the statue of celestial bird Jatayu in the temple town.
