MI vs KKR: Finally a bowlers’ match in IPL 2024 that saw… | – Times of India

In an Indian Premier League (IPL) season that has seen the most 200-plus totals, a game that had all 20 wickets falling for the first time in 51 matches came as a refreshing leveller on Friday, when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) breached the Mumbai Indians (MI) fortress at the Wankhede Stadium.

The 24-run defeat, which virtually eliminated five-time champions Mumbai Indians from the race to playoffs, saw KKR getting bowled out for 169 and Mumbai Indians succumbing to 145 all out in 18.5 years, thanks to back-in-form KKR pacer Mitchell Starc who took 4/33.

It was just the fourth instance in IPL history where both the teams got bowled out — another statistic that highlights the batting-friendly conditions in the IPL since its inception in 2008.
After the 2018 IPL season, it was the first instance of 20 wickets falling in an IPL match.
Here are the four IPL matches so far that saw 20 wickets falling:
1. Deccan Chargers vs Rajasthan Royals, Nagpur, 2010
2. Kolkata Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata, 2017
3. Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai, 2018
4. Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai, 2024
KKR put up 169 on the board, thanks to a half-century by Venkatesh Iyer (70 off 52 balls) and an equally crucial 31-ball 42 by Manish Pandey, despite MI having the visitors on the ropes at 57/5 in just the seventh over.
Jasprit Bumrah once again led MI’s bowling charts with his spell of 3/18. Nuwan Thushara also took three wickets (3/42). Captain Hardik Pandya (2/44) and Piyush Chawla (1/15) were the other wicket-takers for the home team. One wicket fell by way of run-out, Andre Russell (7) being the batsman.
For KKR, besides Starc’s four wicket spell, Varun Chakravarthy (2/22), Sunil Narine (2/22) and Russell (2/30) took two wickets each.
Mumbai folded up for 145 in 18.5 overs despite Suryakumar Yadav’s 35-ball 56.
The win took KKR to No. 2 on the points table with seven wins in 10 matches, while MI continue to languish at the ninth position in the 10-team table after their eighth defeat in 11 matches.
