Samson scored 86 during RR’s vain attempt to chase down 222 on Tuesday. The offence he committed was not detailed, but it might have been disputing with the umpires after he was removed in the 16th over following a catch made by Shai Hope close to the boundary lines.
Was there any doubt as to whether Hope’s foot made contact with the boundary ropes during the catch? The RR captain was not pleased with the third umpire’s decision to exclude Samson. After turning to head towards the pavilion, he stopped and spoke with the on-field umpires in the middle.
“Samson committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the IPL said in a statement.

A Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct includes “excessive, obvious disappointment with an Umpire’s decision; an obvious delay in resuming play or leaving the wicket; requesting a referral to the TV Umpire and arguing or entering into a prolonged discussion with the Umpire about his/her decision.”
Samson was fined Rs 12 lakh on April 10 as well for RR’s slow overrate in their Jaipur encounter against the Gujarat Titans.
