Haryana political crisis: JJP leader Dushyant Chautala writes to governor, asks for floor test | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Former Haryana deputy CM and JJP leader Dushyant Chautala wrote to the governor on Thursday, asking for a floor test. He stated that if the government lacks the majority, President’s Rule should be immediately implemented in the state.
In an interview with ANI, Chautala said, “The government that was formed two months back is now in the minority because two of the MLAs who supported them–one from the BJP and the other an Independent MLA–have resigned.Three Independent MLAs who were supporting them have withdrawn their support and have written to the Governor. JJP has clearly said that if a No Confidence Motion is brought against this government, we will support the motion. We have also written to the Governor about it. Now, Congress has to take this step (seeking a floor test). Congress will have to decide if they are going to take any steps to corner the current BJP government or not.”
He further added, “the governor has the power to order a floor test to see if the government has the strength and if it doesn’t have the majority, immediately implement President’s Rule in the state.”
BJP’s estranged ally JJP is ready to support Congress-led opposition’s bid to topple the Nayab Singh Saini government in Haryana, Chautala declared on Wednesday, simultaneously firing a warning to his MLA colleagues that defying a whip and siding with the saffron party would invite disqualification.
Earlier this week, three Independent MLAs withdrew support from the BJP-led coalition, reducing its strength to 43 in what is effectively an 88-member assembly after the resignations last March by ex-CM Manohar Lal Khattar and Independent MLA Ranjit Singh Chautala.
Meanwhile, Saini insisted there was no threat to his govt and it would complete its tenure without a hitch. “We weren’t a minority government earlier and are not a minority now,” he said in Sirsa.
Haryana is due for state elections in October. Although the BJP government technically appears safe for now, three Independents withdrawing support could affect the party’s prospects in the Lok Sabha poll.
The state will vote in the fifth phase on May 25, with BJP facing the challenge of retai- ning all 10 seats it won in 2019.
