‘We were taking the softer option earlier, but now…’: Dinesh Karthik on resurgent RCB’s changed approach | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik on Thursday highlighted a shift in strategy for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), suggesting the team has moved away from a ‘softer option’ to a more assertive approach in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
The change has been instrumental in the team’s resurgence, as they look to make a strong impact in the coming matches with an eye on IPL 2024 playoffs.
Karthik’s comments reflect RCB’s determination to adopt a tougher stance in their gameplay, with an emphasis on aggressive tactics and a fighting spirit.
RCB, who are languishing at 7th spot with 8 points after registering 4 wins out of 11 games, need to win their remaining three matches to stand any chance whatsoever for the playoffs.
The team’s new approach aims to outperform competitors and achieve greater success in their matches. RCB, known for its passionate fanbase and talented roster, is keen on turning around their fortunes and making a mark in the tournament.
Karthik clearly stated that there is a long way to go for RCB, who are rising again on the back of three back-to-back wins, but they need to maintain the momentum.
“We have reached that stage where we have to win every game, we have won three in a row but there’s a long way to go. Need to try and repeat things we have been doing well. Bowling in good areas, taking on bowlers up front and keeping that pressure on the bowlers. Things that have worked for us, need to repeat them again and again,” Karthik said before the start of the do-or-die match against Punjab Kings in Dharamsala.
“Earlier we were taking the softer option with the bat but we are taking the harder option now. We are trying to put the pressure on the bowlers. The bowlers have been taken to the cleaners, the pitches are good and boundaries are short.
“I am not big on wickets which are completely in favour of batters, I think there should be an even contest between the bat and ball. What I am hearing is that people are loving those 270-280 totals, at the end of the day people who watch the sport that matter. There’s a lot of freedom as a batter but there’s pressure as well, you got to up your game. Need to be consistent and score those runs,” Karthik added.
