Stock market today: BSE Sensex up over 180 points; Nifty50 above 22,150 – Times of India



Stock market today: Indian equity benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and Nifty50, rose in trade on Tuesday. While BSE Sensex climbed up over 180 points to near 73,000 levels, Nifty50 was above 22,100. At 9:24 AM, BSE Sensex was trading at 72,833.90, up 58 points or 0.079%. Nifty50 was at 22,132.75, up 29 points or 0.13%.
On Monday, domestic markets bounced back from lower levels to end the day with gains, likely due to short covering and buying at lower levels.Today, the markets will react to the slightly eased retail inflation in April.
“Going ahead, markets would take cues from the voter’s turnout data from the fourth phase which has been a major concern so far,” said Siddhartha Khemka, Head – Retail Research, Motilal Oswal.
Technical analysis suggests that the Nifty’s recovery may face resistance in the 22150-22200 zone, and a decisive move above 22200 is needed to trigger a stronger market rally, according to an ET report.
US stocks closed mixed on Monday, with the S&P 500 slightly lower, the Nasdaq adding 0.27%, and the Dow off 0.15%. Asian shares were rangebound, with Hong Kong stocks poised for gains following a rally in US-listed Chinese shares. Oil prices surged on Tuesday due to expectations of a tightening supply-demand balance.
Several stocks are in the F&O ban today, including Vodafone Idea, Canara Bank, ZEE, Balrampur Chini Mills, GMR Infra, SAIL, Hindustan Copper, PEL, and PNB. Foreign portfolio investors were net sellers at Rs 4,498 crore on Monday, while DIIs bought shares worth Rs 3,562 crore. The rupee settled flat at 83.51 against the US dollar on Monday.
Bharti Airtel, Bharti Hexacom, Shree Cement, Patanjali Foods, Devyani, PVR Inox, and others will announce their fourth quarter earnings on Tuesday.
