During an exclusive interview with ETimes, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s admiration for Manisha Koirala was evident as he shared his thoughts on working with her. “I have had the opportunity to work with Manisha Koirala on several projects over the years, dating back to 1996. It’s been more than 25 years of collaboration,” Bhansali remarked.
“Working with her was a unique opportunity. Manisha has never played the role of a courtesan in Hindi cinema, and she isn’t overly exposed in every show, series, or reality TV program. Her presence on social media is also minimal, which I find refreshing,” he added.

His appreciation for Manisha Koirala extends beyond her professional capabilities. He praised her enigmatic presence and the mystery she brings to her roles, a quality that he believes enhances her star value. “She still holds a star value that remains intact; Manisha is a star who is seen less frequently, maintaining a mysterious allure. ‘Sitare sirf raat me dikhate hai, din me to ap or hum jese log bhi najar aate hai.’ True stars, in my opinion, should appear sparingly, creating intrigue and curiosity,” Sanjay explained.
Manisha Koirala’s journey in the film industry has been nothing short of extraordinary. Known for her powerful performances in films like ‘1942: A Love Story,’ ‘Bombay,’ and ‘Dil Se,’ she has carved a niche for herself with her versatile acting and compelling screen presence. “As an actor, she is exemplary. Working with her has always been a remarkable experience, and our relationship is truly special,” concluded the filmmaker.
