Porsche teen’s grandpa held for threat to driver | India News – Times of India



PUNE: The grandfather of the 17-year-old Porsche Taycan car driver was arrested Saturday on charges of abducting, threatening and confining their family driver at their home after the May 19 crash in a bid to force him to own up the crime. Two techies were killed in the accident.
The teen‘s grandfather, 77 was produced in court and remanded in police custody till May 28.However, his lawyer Prashant Patil told the court that he was in Delhi with his wife when the accident occurred in Pune’s Kalyaninagar. The boy’s father, a prominent city builder, was arrested on Tuesday from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on similar charges linked to the driver.
The police cited grandfather’s criminal antecedents to seek his custody and give protection to the driver. The septuagenarian was previously booked in cases of cheating, attempts to murder and intimidation.
The police told the court that they had recovered clothes of the driver from the teen’s home in Wadgaonsheri. They sought his custody saying they wanted to seize a BMW in which the driver was abducted, check if anyone else was involved and examine his phone.
The fresh case was registered against the teen’s grandfather and father after the police recorded the statements of their driver, 42, on Thursday and he lodged a complaint. The case includes IPC sections 342, 365, 368, 506 and 34.
Pune commissioner of police (CP) Amitesh Kumar told TOI: “He (the driver) mentioned that around 2.45am on Sunday (after the accident), the builder (father of the boy) called him up. The builder told him to claim that he was behind the wheel of the car. The builder’s wife, too, requested him to own up responsibility. The family members offered him various enticements.”
