GUWAHATI/AIZAWAL/SHILLONG: Floods and landslides triggered by continuous rain from Cyclone Remal’s impact and the onset of monsoon claimed six more lives Thursday in the North-East, increasing the death toll to 45 across the region.
In Meghalaya‘s East Khasi Hills district, four people are feared dead due to a landslide, with one body found so far. One more body was retrieved from rubbles of a landslide in Mizoram, bringing the total confirmed deaths to 28 in the state.
In Assam, floods claimed three lives, affecting over 1.98 lakh people across nine districts, with over 35,000 people seeking shelter in camps. In Manipur, floods inundated several areas, including the CM’s residence and Raj Bhavan in Imphal.
