PM Modi completes his 45-hour long meditation at Kanniyakumari | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his unprecedented 45-hour meditation session at the serene shores of Kanniyakumari in Tamil Nadu on Saturday. The PM was in the state on a spiritual visit.
He was meditating at the Dhyan Mandapam, the place where revered Hindu philosopher Swami Vivekananda is believed to have had a divine vision about ‘Bharat Mata’.
This coincides with the conclusion of polling for the final phase of Lok Sabha polls.
The Prime Minister is known to undertake spiritual journeys at the end of election campaigns. In 2019, he visited Kedarnath, and in 2014, he visited Shivaji’s Pratapgarh.
Earlier in the day, he performed the ‘Surya Arghya’ during sunrise at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, officials said. PM Modi carried out ‘Surya Arghya,’ a ritual associated with spiritual practice involving salutations to the Almighty, manifested in the form of the sun.
The PM poured a little water from a traditional, beaker-like small vessel into the sea as an offering (Arghya) and prayed using his prayer beads (Japa mala), they said.
PM Modi was clad in saffron and also paid floral tributes to a statue of Swami Vivekananda. He walked around the mandapam with his ‘japa mala’ in his hands.
Kanniyakumari is famous for its sunrise and sunset and the memorial is located on a tiny islet near the shoreline. This is the Southernmost tip of India. Further, this is the place where India’s Eastern and Western coastlines meet. It is also the meeting point of the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea.
According to mythology, Goddess Parvati also meditated at the same place on one foot as she waited for Lord Shiva.
At the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, the PM embarked on meditation on the evening of May 30, which he concluded today.
The election for 543 Lok Sabha seats is being held in seven phases starting April 19. The counting of the votes will be held on June 4.
