NEW DELHI: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday took a dig at PM Modi as the BJP fell short of majority in Lok Sabha elections. “PM Modi ‘broke’ many parties, people broke his morale,” Mamata said after her party made impressive gains in West Bengal and stopped the BJP’s juggernaut in the state. The Trinamool chief said ‘India has won, Modi has lost’.
The opposition’s INDIA bloc has made impressive gains in the elections, but could not stop NDA from consecutive third term. The BJP-led NDA is comfortably poised to form its next government with 290 seats in its kitty.
In West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress is set to win 29 Lok Sabha seats, a gain of 7 from the 2019 elections. The BJP, on the other hand, is likely to settle at 12 seats – which would be 6 less than its score five years back.
Mamata thanked the people of Bengal for the mandate and said PM Modi should resign immediately as he has lost credibility. “I will try to ensure that Modi is out of power and INDIA bloc is in,” the West Bengal chief minister said.

Mamata made a special mention of Sandeshkhali, which was made a big election issue by the BJP, and said: “We won Basirhat Lok Sabha seat, where Sandeshkhali is located, despite canards spread against our mothers and sisters.”
