‘Hitman’ Rohit Sharma becomes first batter ever in international cricket to… | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: India skipper Rohit Sharma on Wednesday rewrote several records that included becoming the first ever batter to smash 600 sixes in international cricket.
The ‘Hitman‘ went up on multiple records’ list with his superb knock in India’s T20 World Cup tournament opener against Ireland at the Nassau Stadium in New York.
Chasing a below-par 97-turn target against the Irish on a tricky surface, Rohit first crossed the 4000-run mark in T20Is.
Rohit needed 26 runs for the 4000-run feat in T20Is and he accomplished it in the 6th over of the chase, becoming only the third batter after Virat Kohli (4037) and Babar Azam (4023) to the milestone.

He then notched up 1000 T20 World Cup runs in the 9th over — once again becoming only the third batter after Kohli and Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardhane (1016) to the landmark.

Rohit also smashed three sixes against the Ireland bowlers to become the first ever batter to 600 sixes in international cricket.
The India opener (4137 in Tests, 10709 in ODIs & 4001* in T20Is) also joined Kohli (8848 in Tests, 13848 in ODIs & 4038 in T20Is) on the elusive list of players to score 4000 runs across all three formats in international cricket.
After scoring a superb 52, Rohit retired hurt in the 11th over.
India went on to win their tournament opener by 8 wickets.
