Drumbeaters will look for anything to justify ‘ek-tihaaii’ PM Modi’s pathetic performance: Jairam Ramesh | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Saturday lambasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and claimed that his Bharatiya Janata Party‘s performance in the Lok Sabha elections mark ‘his moral, political and personal defeat.’
Mocking the attempts of drawing parallels between Modi and former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, the senior Congress leader posted on X, “Those beating the drum for Narendra Modi are finding a ray of hope even in the mandate that marks his moral, political and personal defeat. How leading a party to 240 seats and becoming an ek-tihaaii Pradhan Mantri is a mandate is not explained.”
Further, Ramesh remarked that former Nehru remained a staunch democrat, despite having secured a two-thirds majority in Parliament three times.
“Nehru, on the other hand, got 364 seats in 1952, 371 seats in 1957, and 361 seats in 1962 – a 2/3rd majority each time. Yet he remained a complete democrat, nurturing Parliament so very carefully with his constant presence Neither is Modi the only man since Nehru to be sworn in thrice – in a row or not. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was sworn in thrice in 1996, 1998 and 1999. And Indira Gandhi was sworn in 4 times in 1966, 1967, 1971 and 1980. The drumbeaters will look for anything to justify Mr. Narendra Modi’s pathetic electoral performance in 2024,” he said.
“Those beating the drum for a one-third prime minister will find anything to make light of his poor electoral performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections,” he added.
With support from Naidu’s TDP and Nitish Kumar’s JD(U), which won 16 and 12 seats in Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, respectively, and other alliance partners, the NDA has crossed the halfway mark.
PM Modi is set to take oath as the prime minister for a third consecutive term on Sunday evening after President Droupadi Murmu invited him to form the government.
