‘Already jittery’: Congress’ swipe at PM Modi over portfolio suspense | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Taking a swipe at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh remarked on Monday that the delay in assigning ministerial portfolios indicates nervousness within what he termed the “one-third prime minister” government.

“Almost 24 hours after being sworn in the one third Pradhan Mantri is yet to allocate portfolios.

Already jittery,” said Ramesh in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

PM Narendra Modi, along with his 71-member council of ministers, took the oath on Sunday as the new coalition government was formed following two full tenures in which the BJP had a majority on its own.
However, the government is yet to allocate specific portfilos to the ministers.

The PM Modi 3.0 council of ministers include representation from all corners of the country as well as social groups. It has 27 ministers from Other Backward Classes, 10 from Scheduled Castes, 5 from Scheduled Tribes and 5 from minorities. A record 18 senior Ministers will be heading ministries.

Modi Cabinet 3.0 includes 43 ministers who have served 3 terms or higher in Parliament, with 39 having been ministers in central government before. The list includes multiple former chief ministers and 34 ministers who have served in state legislatures and 23 having worked as ministers in states.

After the last reshuffling of portfolios in the previous Modi government, the council of ministers had comprised the PM and 78 ministers, including 29 Cabinet Ministers, 3 Ministers of State (Independent Charge) and 47 Ministers of State.
