NEW DELHI: Congress MP from Amethi Kishori Lal Sharma on Monday slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for using the name of Lord Ram for political benefits. Sharma alleged that the slogan of ‘400 paar’ worked against the BJP.
“The slogan of ‘400 Paar’ worked against them. This government stands on crutches. Lord Ram has punished them. They have used Lord Ram as an election agenda,” the Congress MP said.
“On moral grounds, BJP hasn’t won.BJP has not won 272 seats,” he said.
On BJP winning 240 seats, and needing the support of NDA allies to form the government Sharma said that the government is ‘standing on crutches’.
Sharma defeated former Union minister Smriti Irani in the Amethi constituecny by 1,67,196 votes.
Smriti Irani had previously won the Amethi seat in 2019, defeating Rahul Gandhi by over 55,000 votes.
In the Amethi constituency, Sharma emerged victorious against Smriti Irani, a former Union minister, securing a margin of 167,196 votes.
The results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were announced on Tuesday, following the counting of votes. As per the data released by the Election Commission of India, in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party (SP) secured 37 seats, while the BJP won 33 seats. The Congress party managed to win 6 seats, and the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) won 2 seats. Additionally, the Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) and Apna Dal (Soneylal) each won 1 seat in the Lok Sabha elections.
