NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court slammed the Delhi government on Wednesday regarding the water crisis faced by residents in the capital.
The apex court warned the Delhi government, saying “If you can’t deal with tanker mafia, we will ask Delhi Police to take action.” The court questioned the measures taken by the government to control water wastage, considering the recurring problem of water scarcity during summers.The court further emphasized the suffering of the people, noting the visuals being shown on every news channel.
The top court also directed the Delhi government to file an affidavit detailing the measures it has implemented to control water wastage.
Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena met Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday who assured him that water is being supplied to the national capital according to its allocated share.
Over the past two weeks, the ruling AAP government has repeatedly accused the BJP-led Haryana government of restricting Delhi’s share of water.
In an effort to address the issue, Mr Saxena met with Delhi ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj on Monday. He assured them that he would discuss the water supply problem with the Haryana government and advised against engaging in a “blame game,” encouraging the resolution of issues in an amicable manner.
