NEW DELHI: 28 of 71 (39%) ministers that are a part of the newly sworn-in PM Narendra Modi‘s cabinet have declared criminal cases against them, according to a report by Association of Democratic Reforms. Of these 19 (27%) of them have charges of serious crimes against them including murders and crimes against women.
BJP’s West Bengal faces in the Parliament — Shantanu Thakur and Sukanta Majumdar — have murder charges under IPC 307 against them.The two also face charges of crime against women. The former is minister of state for ports, shipping and waterways and the latter minister of state for education and development of north eastern region.
There are five ministers that face charges of crime against women including BJP’s sole representative from Kerala Suresh Gopi. He took charge as the MoS for petroleum and natural gas and tourism. Others include BJP’s Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Jual Oram.
The report states that there are eight ministers with cases of hate speech against them, including home minister Amit Shah and textiles minister Giriraj Singh.
