NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police on Tuesday filed 500 pages chargesheet against Bibhav Kumar, a close associate of AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, in connection with the Swati Maliwal assault case, at the Tis Hazari Court.
The charge sheet was submitted to Metropolitan Magistrate Gaurav Goyal, who also extended Bibhav ‘s judicial custody until July 30, who appeared before the court via video conferencing.
Swati Maliwal claims that Bibhav assaulted her when she visited the Delhi CM’s residence on May 13 to meet with him.
Based on Maliwal’s complaint, the final report was filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 341 (wrongful restraint), 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354 B (assault or use of criminal force against a woman with the intent to disrobe her), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (insult caused to the modesty of a woman by the use of any words, gestures or object intending to the do the same).
During the proceedings , the prosecution informed the court that the charge sheet runs into around 500 pages, which includes statements from around 50 witnesses.
Authorities have obtained the DVR from Kerjriwal’s residence and seized several devices, including two of Bibhav’s mobile phones. During his police custody, Bibhav was transported to Mumbai on two occasions to retrieve allegedly erased data from his mobile devices.
The Delhi High Court on Friday rejected Kumar’s bail application, stating that he holds “considerable influence” and could potentially tamper with evidence if released.
The court has instructed the Police to ensure Bibhav ‘s physical presence in court on July 30.
