The speculation about a rift within the BJP’s Uttar Pradesh unit intensified on Wednesday after Maurya posted on X that ‘the party is bigger than the government’ and urged ministers, MLAs, and public representatives to respect party workers.
Maurya’s statement came a day after he met BJP president J P Nadda in Delhi. However, neither the party nor Maurya disclosed details about the meeting.
There have been persistent talks about strained relations between Maurya and Adityanath. In private conversations, several BJP leaders from the state, including some who lost in the Lok Sabha elections, have criticised Adityanath’s working style, citing it as a factor contributing to their electoral defeat.
