NEW DELHI: The Indian Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, said on Saturday that they, in close collaboration with Cambodian authorities, have successfully rescued 14 Indian nationals from fraudulent job offers in the state that lured them into cyber crime.
Sharing a post on X , the Indian Embassy in Cambodia said: “Indian Embassy in Cambodia in collaboration with Cambodian authorities have got 14 Indian citizens trapped in cybercrime scam released.They are being looked after by Cambodian side. Embassy working for their expeditious return home & remains committed to their welfare.”
The Embassy has successfully facilitated the rescue and repatriation of more than 650 Indian nationals who were victims of these fraudulent schemes till now.
In a statement released by the Embassy it said: “The Embassy of India in Phnom Penh has been actively rescuing Indian nationals from fraudulent job offers in Cambodia that lure them into cybercrime operations. In close cooperation with Cambodian authorities, the Embassy has facilitated the rescue and repatriation of over 650 Indian citizens who had fallen victim to these scams.”
“Most recently, the Embassy provided specific leads to the Cambodian Police, leading to the rescue of 14 additional Indian victims. These individuals are currently being cared for by an NGO working in coordination with Cambodia’s Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation,” it added.
The Indian Embassy maintains constant communication with Cambodian authorities, pressing for the swift completion of required procedures to facilitate the secure and prompt return of the 14 Indian citizens who were rescued, ensuring their safe passage back to India.
Furthermore, the Embassy also advised the Indian citizens to exercise extreme caution when considering job offers in Cambodia and to promptly inform the Embassy of any suspicious activities or concerns.
