LUCKNOW: UP CM Yogi Adityanath is likely to meet PM Narendra Modi and BJP brass when he is in New Delhi on July 27 for the Niti Aayog governing council meeting.
Highly placed sources in govt confirmed the CM would be meeting the PM, Union home minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda. These proposed meetings assume significance against the backdrop of ongoing strife within the UP BJP following its poor showing in the Lok Sabha elections, a situation further aggravated after the July 14 state executive meeting in Lucknow.Sources said Yogi is expected to hold discussions regarding govt as well as steps to taken to salvage the discontent among party workers.
The CM’s scheduled meeting in Delhi comes also just ahead of the UP assembly session beginning July 29. Sources said the chief minister is expected to deliberate on strategies to be adopted to counter the opposition, primarily Samajwadi Party which has regained all its aggression after its remarkable LS election performance.
The “govt versus organisation” debate became the talk of UP’s political circles after deputy CM Keshav Maurya said while addressing the state executive that the “organisation was bigger than govt”. This was seen as a jibe aimed at CM Yogi who later in the same session said “overconfidence was the reason for the party’s below-par show in UP”.
Talk about a rumbling within the UP BJP resonated nationally when just three days after this meet both Maurya and BJP state chief Bhupendra Chaudhary landed in Delhi to meet Nadda. Chaudhary also met PM Modi and reportedly submitted the state unit’s report which referred to the “inactiveness of certain workers”, lack of coordination between MPs and MLAs in a few districts, and “improper selection” of candidates in a host of constituencies as the reason for BJP’s poor LS election showing.
Unfazed by the developments, Yogi held a meeting of ministers in-charge who have been assigned the task of ramping up preparedness for bypolls to 10 assembly seats. The CM reportedly asked them to focus on ground work and how the party could take lessons from its poor performance in the Lok Sabha polls to ensure that it won all 10 seats.
“Besides, addressing concerns of BJP’s ground-level workers will be high on the agenda of this team, headed by the CM himself,” said a top source. The state govt and the party organisation have decided to step up measures to boost the morale of party workers and public representatives, essentially party MLAs and MPs. Sources said the Yogi govt has decided to placate anxious MLAs to arrest the possibility of legislators speaking against the govt and the party.
