JAIPUR: Rajasthan govt has called for a CBI inquiry into production of fake Aadhaar cards, following alarming allegations that animal irises and toe prints were being used in place of human biometrics in Sanchore and other districts bordering Pakistan.
State parliamentary affairs minister Jogaram Patel said Saturday that govt will launch an statewide campaign, forming search teams to investigate the creation of fake Aadhaar cards by e-Mitra/Aadhaar operators.
His statement came in response to a call attention motion in state assembly by Congress MLA Ratan Devasi from Raniwada, who claimed that animals were being used to fabricate Aadhaar cards. Devasi also alleged that fingerprints of schoolchildren were collected for Rs 200 each, and iris scanners were held upside down to capture photos for Aadhaar card production.
Minister Patel said machines belonging to 14 e-Mitra/Aadhaar operators had been deregistered after showcause notices were issued following a technical-level inquiry by UIDAI, which is responsible for issuing Aadhaar.
Department of IT & communication is probing the operations of Aadhaar centres in Rajasthan. “Strict disciplinary and legal action is being taken against guilty Aadhaar operators,” Patel said.
The minister said that two police cases have been filed in Sanchore concerning the issuance of fake Aadhaar cards by e-Mitra operators after the matter was probed by UIDAI. A suspect named Manohar Lal has been arrested in Sanchore in connection with the fraud.
