BARWANI: Approximately 40 female students residing in a state-run hostel in Barwani, Madhya Pradesh, fell sick on Saturday, prompting their immediate transfer to a nearby hospital.
According to Devyani Aharwal, the district health officer, 10 of the affected girls required hospitalization due to their condition.
The incident occurred at the Kasturba Kanya Ashram located in Niwali.
“Some 44 girls complained of vomiting, diarrhoea and fever. They were rushed to hospital where 10 were admitted and the rest were discharged after preliminary treatment. Of the 10, five girls have been referred to the district hospital. We are waiting for medical reports to find out why they fell ill,” she said.
In response to the situation, an official stated that samples of water and food from the hostel have been collected and sent for testing to determine the cause of the illness.
