BENGALURU: Within days of the jobs-for-locals controversy, Karnataka is in the midst of another wrangle over labour. Karnataka State IT/ITeS Employees Union (Kitu) said Saturday the Karnataka govt plans to increase the working hours in IT and ITES (IT-enabled services) sector to 14 hours a day, from the maximum 10 hours (including overtime) that’s allowed now.Sources in the state govt acknowledged there is a move to raise the per-day limit to 12-14 hours.
But what Kitu left unsaid in its press statement was whether the upper limit of 48 hours for the week is also being reconsidered. Govt sources declined to provide details of the Bill being proposed.
Karnataka labour minister Santosh Lad is said to have taken objection to the proposed amendments.
