VARANASI: When Varanasi police cracked a month-old case on Wednesday, it was left red in the face as the kingpin of a gang that looted Rs 43.5 lakh from a businessman on June 22 was one of their own.
Suryaprakash Pandey, a sub-inspector in charge of the Nadesar outpost, was found to be running a gang of robbers and him, along with two of his gang members, have since been arrested.This came to light when the Special Operation Group (SOG) and the Ramnagar police team of Varanasi police were investigating the case.
Gaurav Banshwal, DCP (crime branch) of Kashi Zone, and Neetu Kadyan, ADCP, said on Wednesday that Pandey, along with two accomplices, Vikas Mishra and Ajay Gupta, were arrested, while other gang members – Yogesh Pathak, Mukesh Dubey, and Nilesh Yadav are on the run.
