NEW DELHI: Indian Navy rescues critically injured Chinese mariner from bulk carrierThe Indian Navy on Wednesday successfully evacuated a critically injured Chinese mariner from the bulk carrier Zhong Shan Men, located approximately 200 nautical miles (370 kilometers) from Mumbai.
The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai received a distress call on the evening of July 23, reporting a critical injury to a 51-year-old mariner aboard the bulk carrier.The mariner was experiencing severe blood loss and required immediate medical evacuation.
In response to the emergency, a helicopter was launched from the Indian Navy Air Station INS Shikra. The operation was conducted jointly by the MRCC Mumbai and the Indian Navy.

The operation was conducted under challenging weather conditions, with winds exceeding 45 knots and heavy rolling of the ship, further complicated by the absence of a continuous deck on the vessel. Despite these obstacles, the patient was successfully airlifted from the bridge wing of the ship.
The mariner was transported back to the air station and subsequently shifted to a hospital for further medical management. The Indian Coast Guard Ship Samrat, which was in the vicinity, was also diverted to render additional assistance if needed.
