‘Desperate’, ‘disgusting’: White House on ‘sexist’ and ‘racist’ remarks on Kamala Harris – Times of India

The White House has strongly condemned the escalating “sexist” and “racist” attacks against Vice President Kamala Harris, which have intensified since she became the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre described the attacks as “desperate,” “disgusting,” and a “dog whistle” during a recent press conference.
Jean-Pierre emphasized that Harris, as the Vice President of the United States, deserves respect for her role in restarting the economy and addressing the pandemic during her nearly four years in office alongside the president. She also highlighted Harris’ previous experience as a Senator, underscoring her qualifications for the position.
The attacks against Harris have reached such a level that House Speaker Mike Johnson felt compelled to intervene, urging Republican lawmakers to refrain from engaging in such behavior.
Jean-Pierre said, “When you have the speaker of the House, obviously he’s a Republican, and this is something that you all have reported, set up a meeting to tell Republican leaders to stop being racist, to stop being misogynist, to stop being sexist, I think that says a lot that they have to be told to not do that.”
According to a report by Politico, “House Republican leaders told lawmakers to focus on criticizing Vice President Kamala Harris’ record without reference to her race and gender, following caustic remarks from some Republicans attacking her on the basis of identity.”
Former US president and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump recently launched a series of attacks against Harris at an election rally in North Carolina. Trump described her as “unfit to rule” and a “radical left lunatic,” claiming that she would destroy the country if given the chance to hold office.
He vowed to prevent such an occurrence, stating, “We’re not going to let that happen.”
