NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi on Friday reached Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur Court in connection with a defamation case. Vijay Mishra, who was the BJP district vice president at the time of the alleged incident, had filed the defamation case against Rahul.
The defamation case is against Union home minister Amit Shah dating back to 2018 when in a press conference, Rahul had said, “People in India forget that the president of BJP is a murder accused. That’s the truth. The party that talks about honesty, decency, has a person who has been accused of murder as president.”
Rahul was talking about an accusation against Shah regarding his alleged role in the extra-judicial killing of a criminal named Sohrabuddin Sheikh in 2005. “Amit Shah has been accused of murder, right? The Supreme Court has mentioned the (judge) Loya case. So I don’t think Amit Shah has a lot of credibility. I mean, let’s look into his background. Let’s see what he is responsible for. Let’s see how he does politics. Also, don’t forget he is a murder accused. This is fundamental,” he had said to reporters.
