Congress blames Chhattisgarh government for fake encounters and framing innocent tribals | India News – Times of India

RAIPUR: The opposition in Chhattisgarh, Congress , has alleged that the security forces in Bastar were under tremendous political pressure to get quick results on the anti-Naxal front, leading to fake encounters of innocent tribals, planting of muzzle-loading guns to brand them as Maoists and also make more arrests in insurgency-hit tribal Bastar region.
Addressing a joint press conference here, Congress state president Deepak Baij, leader of the opposition Dr Charandas Mahant and former chief minister Bhupesh Baghel stated on Saturday that such undue pressure was resulting in security forces committing such mistakes. The issue was raised in the monsoon session of the Assembly by the LoP.
“I had given clear instructions to the security forces about the muzzle-loading guns during my tenure as chief minister. In a meeting of the home department, I had asked the police department to keep an account of the muzzle-loading guns. As a result, the misuse of such guns was almost nil, but today these guns are being recovered now and then,” said former chief minister Baghel.
The Congress leaders also alleged that people are falling prey to malaria and diarrheal diseases and are not being provided with free medicines, unlike during the previous Congress government. Even Jashpur, the home district of chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai, has reported the deaths of tribal students in the hostels.
The Congress is planning a major protest regarding the amendment to the Chhattisgarh Krishi Mandi Act, said PCC President Deepak Baij. The amendment bill was presented in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly’s monsoon session. The Congress legislators had vehemently opposed the amendment bill, Baij said.
“This is a significant and serious issue. This market amendment bill will not benefit Chhattisgarh. It is essentially the same bill that the central government had introduced as part of the three farm laws, with an added clause. It is designed to benefit a few industrialists. The people of Chhattisgarh have not understood this bill yet, and there is a need for them to comprehend its implications,” Baij said during the press conference.
The leader of the opposition, Dr Mahant, stated that for the first time in the history of the Chhattisgarh Assembly, discussions were held on four adjournment motions in the five-day session, and the credit should go to the Opposition Congress. “As the opposition, we see the five-day assembly session as successful,” the LoP said.
