The solution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict will not emerge from the battlefield, external affairs minister S Jaishankar said on Monday adding that the countries need to keep in touch with both nations.
Reiterating the need for dialogue and diplomacy only solution to the conflict, Jaishankar in Tokyo said, “From the very beginning, we had the view that use of force does not resolve problems between countries. In the last 2-2.5 years, this conflict has cost lives, economic damage, global consequences, impacted other societies, and contributed to global inflation…Our position is that we do not think that the solution will emerge from the battlefield…We believe that there must be a return to dialogue and diplomacy”
Recalling Turkey’s effort to restore Black sea grain deal, and other countries effort for prison exchange, Jaishankar said that India have assisted in several plans to resolve the conflict or to mend ways so that people living in Russia and Ukraine can survive.
“Our feeling today is that more needs to be done, we should not resign ourselves to the continuation of the current state of conflict and say well this take its own course and let us wait for other parts of world to provide some kind of solution that to mine will be fatalistic it will not be given gravity of the situation,” he said.
“I think it’s imp for countries that are in touch with both parties because there are not many countries who are talking in a way to both countries Russia and Ukraine So we do believe that we should be mire active there,” he added.
Russia started its “special military operation” in Ukraine since February 2022. It has been more than 2 years but still the conflict between the two countries is still unsolved.
